The influence of the European Union law in international arbitration procedures

The influence of the EU law in international arbitration is increasingly significant, as the fields in which the Union has jurisdiction are constantly extending and non-arbitral disputes are becoming increasingly scarce. This influence is often shown by way of mediation. However, in certain situations, the intervention of the European Union’s institutions directly aims at the arbitration procedure. The development of a coherent, predictable arbitral practice, which, therefore, should take into account the general objective of the judicial security, as well as the need to provide the effectiveness of the arbitration awards may allow the harmonization of the rules of the European Union law with the applicable laws, generally in the international arbitration.
